Indian cusine

The indian cuisine consists of various Indian spices, herbs, vegetables and fruit.

Hindu beliefs and culture have played an influential role in the evolution of Indian cuisine.

Cuisine differs across India's diverse regions as a result of variation in local cultures, geographical locations, and economics. Indian cuisine also varies seasonally, depending on what fruits and vegetables are ripe.

Desserts

The Indian sweets, known as mithai, are a type of confectionery. Many are made with sugar, milk and condensed milk, and cooked by frying. The bases of the sweets and other ingredients vary by region. In the Eastern part of India, for example, milk is a staple, and most sweets from this region are based on milk products.

Barfi is a sweet made of dried milk with ground cashews or pistachios. It is customary to attach a thin layer of edible silver foil as decoration.

Chikki a simple sweet made out of peanuts and molasses.

Gulab jamun is an Indian dessert made out of fried milk balls soaked in sweet syrup.

Jalebi is made by deep-frying flour in a circular (coil-like) shape and then dipping in sugar syrup. Imarti is a variant of Jalebi, with a different flour mixture, and has a more coiled texture. Typically Jalebi is brown or yellow, while Imarti is reddish in color. Often taken with milk, tea or even yogurt (or Lassi)

Khaja is a sweet food of Orissa and Bihar states in India. Refined wheat flour, sugar and oils are the ingredients.

At first, a paste is made out of wheat flour, mawa and oil. It is then deep fried until crisp. Then a sugar syrup is made, which is known as "pak". The crisp croissants are then soaked in the sugar syrup until they absorb the sugar syrup. In Kakinada Khaja, it is made dry outside and full of sugar syrup inside, and is juicy.

Kulfi is ice-cream, where the sweetened milk/cream is frozen in small metal cans to be served frozen. Usually it has a milky appearance, but additional colors may be applied for display. A summer-time favorite in most of India, especially in the northern India. It comes in a variety of flavors such as mango kesar or cardamom. It is typically sold by street-side hawkers who carry around these frozen cans of kulfi in a big earthen pot and are much awaited by school kids who savor kulfis during school lunch-times.

Kheerr is a sweet rice pudding, usually made from rice and milk. It is also known as "payas", or payasam in South India. It has been a cultural dish throughout the history of India, being usually found at ceremonies, feasts and celebrations. In many parts of India, ancient traditions maintain that a wedding is not fully blessed if payas is not served at the feast during traditional ceremonies like marriage, child birth, etc.

Occidentalization of Japan.
The first meeting between Japan and occidental culture is situated in the XVI century with the arrival of religious missions by spanish and portuguese, where the impact of nautical techniques and music, medicine, and technology in general, mechanics and mining industry transcended both cultures as an exchange, not only in this way but the culture trough religion too.
One important fact about this exchange was education. After the Spanish and Portuguese visit, the Dutch were interested in the knowledge about the medicine; the Japanese became one of the important countries exporting medicine.
Matthew Perry arrived Japan in 1853, there was a policy called Sakok, which started two centuries before, this policy isolated Japan from the rest of the world, the reason may be because the Shôgun (the main leader) was afraid that someone would take the power. The making of the modern Japan is supposed to be at the end of XIX century by the politic called by the historians as the “Meiji Restoration”. This is the most important fact of the opening with economical interests.
Matthew Perry forced the samurai government to open the doors for occident, he wanted concessions for harbors located in Tokyo; the concessions were successful due the internal crisis of the government. Some sectors of society refused to accept the concessions by their leader and started an internal civil war against the foreigners, but little by little, they started to adopt the culture, education and technology, highly advanced for them, and the way of thinking started to change: they saw in the learning of the new technology the key to progress.
This was the beginning of industrialization and trade, the progress that the country reached, avoided the invasion of USA and Europe. The emperor Mutsuhito was the first emperor who won legitimacy with different sectors of society and he became an icon for the Japanese.
The industrialization allowed Japan to develop the army, the beginning of XX century it was one of the most powerful countries in the world.

THE POPULATION OF AUSTRALIA

We are going to talk about Australia, we have chosen this country because english is the most spoken language there and has an ineresting history although it is well knowing that Australia was one of the last regions around the world wich was discovered.

The fullname of the country is Commonwealth of Autralia and it is located in the Southern Hemisphere surrounded by the Indian and Pacific ocean; and in the continent of Oceania, these facts had leaded to the most of the people to recognize Autralia as the “island-continent” by the way it is considered as the smallest and the lowest-lying human-inhabited continent on the Earth just before Antarctica.
Specifically I will talk about demographics and relevant economics data. In terms of the area, this is the 6th biggest country in the world with 7687000 km2 and 21.5 million people living there until 2010 which places in the number 54 of the world ranking. This country has three dependences, these are:
The Christmas Island, The Cocos Keeling Islands and the Norfolk Island.

The population density of Australia is three people per square kilometer which places in the world ranking 232nd place. The life expectancy is about 82 years and the population grows 1.06% per year, this is related with the literacy fraction which is of the 99%.
This country is made up of an ethnic mix conformed mostly by white people in a 92%, seven percent from Asia and only the one percent are Aboriginal.

The most spoken language in Autralia is English which represents the 88%, in contrast, the Australian Sign Language is just spoken only in a 0.065%, other important languages are the Italian and Greek but these are not competitors of English; becasuse represent just the 1.5% and 1.2% respectively. This is clearly heritage of the British occupation.

Japan

Why Japan???
Japan is a very complicated Country full of mystisicim and with a very ancient history... One of the oldest countries thath still keeps their own native culture and traditions.

But even Japan has been afected by the influence of the Western countries, mostly the United States.

Obviously the official language of Japan is the Japanesse, However as a consequence of globalization, mixture of culures and overall the progress of communication tecnologies such as computers, cellphones and specially the Internet, English became a necessity for their way of life, adding that, to the fact that USA is one of the most powerfull economies in the world.

Japan has adopted English as a secong language, even if it's not official (very similar to what's happening in Mexico, that is the very same reasson for us to study English, isn't it???).

But Japanese not only speak English, they've adopted a lot of words in English and introduce them into their every day vocabulary since they can vistually reproduce any word or sentence in English to their own alphabet. As matter of fact, Japanese has three alphabets:
  • Hiragana, wich is entierly Japanesse and for words born in Japan.
  • the Kanji alphabet, that was an adaptation from the chinese alphabet.
  • Katakana, that is exclusive for foreigns words, mostly in English.
